Heat Sealing a Tyvek Lid on a Container

This video highlights a Thermal Press International C-Series macine performing precision heat sealing of a Tyvek lid onto a medical container. Heat sealing Tyvek is a critical process in medical packaging, as it provides a secure, breathable seal that supports sterilization methods such as ethylene oxide (EtO) while maintaining a reliable microbial barrier.

In this application, the medical container is loaded into a custom-designed fixture that ensures accurate and repeatable positioning throughout the sealing process. Proper alignment between the Tyvek lid and the container flange is essential to achieve a uniform seal and maintain package integrity. The fixturing is engineered to securely hold the container in place, preventing movement during the thermal cycle and ensuring consistent results from part to part.

The system is equipped with a power shuttle table that enhances both operator ergonomics and production efficiency. While the operator loads and unloads containers at the home position, the shuttle indexes the fixture into the sealing area beneath the thermal head. This configuration supports a smooth, repeatable workflow and helps maintain consitent cycle timing across production runs.

During the sealing cycle, the thermal head applies controlled heat and pressure to bond the Tyvek lid to the container. Key process parameters – including temperature, dwell time, and applied force – are precisely controlled to achieve strong, uniform seals without damaging the Tyvek material or deforming the container. The result is a clean, reliable seal that meets the stringent requirements of medical packaging applications.
