Heat Sealing a Flex Connector

This video showcases Thermal Press International R&D work involving the precision heat sealing of both an LCD and a printed circuit board (PCB) to a flex circuit connector in a single, controlled process. Heat sealing is an effective solution for bonding delicate electronic components where precise alignment, consistent pressure, and controlled heat are required to achieve reliable electrical and mechanical connections.

In this application, the flex connector is positioned within a custom-designed fixture that incorporates a small vacuum system to securely hold the component in place. This vacuum-assisted fixturing ensures accurate placement of the flex circuit throughout the process, preventing movement and maintaining proper alignment with both the LCD and PCB interfaces.

The system is built on a C-Series Thermal Press platform equipped with a power shuttle table. This configuration allows the operator to load and unload components at the home position while the shuttle moves the assembly into the processing area, supporting a smooth and repeatable workflow. The result is improved operator efficiency, consistent cycle timing, and enhanced process control.

During the sealing cycle, the thermal head applies controlled heat and force to bond the flex connector to both the LCD and PCB simultaneously. Critical process parameters – including temperature, dwell time, and applied force – are tightly regulated to ensure strong, uniform bonds without damaging sensitive electronic components or compormising signal integrity.

This demonstration highlights the capability of Thermal Press International equipment to support complex, multi-component electronic assemblies. With custom tooling, vacuum-assisted fixturing, and precise process control, the C-Series platform provides a flexible and reliable solution for advanced flex circuit and electronics manufacturing applications.

Heat Staking Threaded Inserts into a Plastic Housing

Threaded inserts provide durable, reusable threads in thermoplastic components, making them ideal for assemblies that require repeated fastening and long-term mechanical strength. Heat staking is one of the most reliable methods for installing threaded inserts because it creates a permanent mechanical bond without introducing adhesives or additional fastening hardware. This
